UWC Thailand Football Coaches
UWC Thailand sent five teams to this year’s BISP Soccer 7’s—the most teams the school has ever sent to a tournament.
After a cloudy, rainy and very muddy couple of days, we would like to give a special mention to Coach Ali, Coach Marco and Coach Siaji for their time and effort in supporting the teams throughout the weekend, both in coaching and cheering each other on. Additional thanks go to Kru JP and Coach Ronan for their support behind the scenes, including stepping in for some last-minute coaching when we faced a fixture clash—thank you, Ronan!
Weekends like these rely on the commitment of a large group of staff who consistently give their time to make football at UWC Thailand what it is. Please do thank the coaches when you see them, including Coach Brian, Coach Kurtis, Coach Agar, Coach Pete, Coach Sonam and Coach Jack. Their dedication is a key reason football remains such a popular sport in our community.
U11 Girls (Coach Ali)
Our U11 Girls’ Team delivered an inspiring performance at the BISP 7’s, advancing to the semi-finals of the Plate competition across two days of exciting matches.
Under Coach Ali’s guidance, the squad showed growing confidence and enthusiasm, with strong contributions from every player—particularly standout performances from Alila and Yingge.
The tournament served as an invaluable developmental experience, building individual skills, team cohesion and a genuine passion for football. With their next home match on Friday at 4.30 pm, the momentum from this tournament continues to drive the team forward.
U13 Girls (Coach Steve)
A youthful Junior Girls’ team—featuring ten U12 players—showed tremendous progress by playing up an age group in the U13 category, representing UWC Thailand superbly throughout the tournament.
Weekend highlights included a dramatic moment where the Mantas struck both posts in a frantic goalmouth scramble before scoring a well-deserved last-minute winner against Harrow International School Beijing. The team followed this with a determined defensive display against Bangkok Patana, and a confident 3–0 win over the International School of Moscow, with two goals from Rosie and a brilliant solo effort from Holly.
The girls eventually fell 1–0 to a strong and physical International School Penang Uplands side in a fiercely contested Plate semi-final. Despite the conditions, they gave one final outstanding effort and did both themselves and the school proud.
O15 Girls (Coach Steve)
The O15 Girls entered the tournament with several debut players and finished third in their group following wins over Harrow International School Bengaluru and British School Guangzhou, and narrow losses to BISP Cruzeiro Blue and Bangkok International Prep School.
The Mantas were extremely unfortunate not to reach the Plate final after dominating International School Penang Uplands and creating multiple chances, only to concede against the run of play from a cross and header that decided the match. This result moved the team into the Bowl competition.
Showing impressive character, they bounced back with a 3–0 semi-final win over BISP, with Imogen controlling the midfield. In the Bowl Final, they produced a composed and intense performance to defeat British School Guangzhou 2–1 and secure the title.
U11 Boys (Coach Marco)
Our U11 Boys delivered an exemplary performance against much larger schools—some with football academies nearly the size of our entire student body.
The team reached the Plate quarter-finals, with one of the tournament’s standout moments being a dramatic penalty shootout against King’s College International School Bangkok. Gabriel (Grade 4) was exceptional, saving two penalties to keep the Mantas in contention.
Throughout the weekend, the boys showed remarkable grit, resilience and perseverance. Congratulations to all U11 players for an excellent showing.
O15 Boys (Coach Siaji)
Twelve committed Senior Boys represented UWC Thailand in the highly competitive O15 category, facing 22 strong teams from Thailand, Singapore, China, Malaysia, Korea, Russia and India.
Despite a slow start, the Mantas grew stronger with every match, often dominating possession and creating clear opportunities in several close games that, in reflection, they felt they could have won. Their resilience was evident in a strong finish to the tournament, scoring seven goals across seven matches and matching the intensity of top regional teams.
The tournament offered an excellent test of character, teamwork and tactical discipline—ideal preparation for the upcoming ASAC Seniors Football Tournament in March.
