PYP Exhibition 2025: Living Our Values Through Community Engagement

PYP Exhibition 2025: Living Our Values Through Community Engagement
UWC Thailand

Each year, the Primary Years Programme Exhibition (PYPX) marks a significant moment in the learning journey of UWC Thailand’s Grade 5 students. This culminating experience challenges students to apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes they have developed throughout the Primary Years Programme to a real-world context—and this year was no exception.

Guided by the transdisciplinary themes Who We Are and How We Express Ourselves, students explored the central idea: Our values and strengths guide us to contribute to our community. With this as their foundation, students embarked on a learning experience that helped them reflect on their personal strengths, understand their responsibilities as members of a global community, and take meaningful action in partnership with local organisations.

Rather than beginning with topics or group names, students applied for roles based on a set of community partner "job descriptions." These roles reflected the needs of UWC Thailand’s Community Engagement Partners and provided authentic contexts for action. Once placed, students collaborated in groups to investigate, plan, and implement projects that aligned with their role and partner organisation.

This year’s Community Engagement Partners included:

  • Seeds of Change
  • Phuket Elephant Nature Reserve
  • Bodhi Dogs Shelter
  • Good Shepherd
  • Pre-Loved Shop
  • Gibbon Rehabilitation Project
  • Ban Phuket Elders Aid Senior's Home
  • Mini Mantas (our youngest learners)
  • Kindergarten
  • Mindfulness Programme

Through these partnerships, students not only deepened their understanding of pressing local issues but also experienced firsthand the impact of empathy, service, and agency. Whether supporting rescued animals, connecting with the elderly, fostering inclusion in early childhood settings, or promoting environmental awareness, each group demonstrated the ways in which young people can contribute meaningfully to the world around them.

The PYPX is more than just a project—it’s a celebration of learning, identity, and action. At UWC Thailand, it is one of the many ways we help students grow into compassionate individuals who recognise their ability to make a difference, both now and in the future.
