UWC Thailand Proudly Hosts Its First International Tournament!

This past month, UWC Thailand was abuzz with excitement, pride, and the unmistakable spirit of competition as we hosted our inaugural international tournament as official members of the ASEAN Sports and Activities Conference (ASAC). Here are the highlights:

  • A Grand Welcome: Over 180 participants, 40 support staff and 30 referees graced our campus, representing schools from four distinct South-East Asian countries. It was a landmark occasion, enriched by the presence of a local team from Phuket Wittayalai School. Our Director of Sport, Activities and Camps, Kerstin Bender, warmly welcomed all participants, expressing her joy and pride at UWC Thailand's journey and the significance of hosting our first ASAC Championships.

  • Unparalleled Support: The tournament resonated with roaring support, especially from our boarding students. It was heartening to witness them turning up in significant numbers, cheering, and elevating the atmosphere of every match. This was a sporting event and a celebration of our growing sports spirit, camaraderie, and the palpable bond that UWC Thailand shares.

  • More than Just a Game: Beyond the thrilling matches and athletic displays, the event underlined our ethos of sportsmanship, fostering connections, mutual respect, and understanding. It was an opportunity to mingle, forge new friendships, and partake in a vibrant exchange of cultures and ideas.

  • Shining on the Court: Amidst the fierce competition, our girls' team showcased outstanding determination. Their hard work and team spirit culminated in them clinching the third-place trophy. For our school, in our very first international tournament on our campus, this achievement was a testament to their dedication and a monumental source of pride.

  • A Testament to Growth: Reflecting on the event, one cannot help but acknowledge how our sports spirit and enthusiasm have burgeoned over the past year. Hosting such a monumental event was a proud moment for our athletes and the entire UWC Thailand community, and it would not have been possible without the outstanding support and hard work of our dedicated facilities and maintenance crew.

In conclusion, as we usher in more such events and continue to foster the spirit of competition and unity, here's a heartfelt thank you to every participant, supporter, and community member. Here's to many more thrilling tournaments and cherished memories!
