How Our Students Explored, Created, and Grew in the First Semester

At UWC Thailand, we don't just talk about student-centred learning, we live it. Every day is a chance for our Middle Years Programme (MYP) students to dive into personalised, challenging, and exploratory experiences that ignite their curiosity and shape them into the well-rounded individuals they'll become.

Kickstarting the Year with a Bang

Remember that awkward first day feeling? We banished it with a dynamic MYP orientation! Through engaging activities and team-building challenges, our students forged friendships that will last a lifetime (and mastered a few new skills along the way, of course!).

Empowering Choice and Passion

Embracing diversity is at the heart of our programme. Our Mother Tongue and Personalised Learning Track programmes let 15% of our students chart their own academic course. They choose their language and delve into subjects that spark their passion, proving that education thrives when fueled by personal interest.

Grade 10 Personal Projects: Owning the Journey

This semester, our grade 10 students embarked on a rite of passage: their personal projects. From robotics whizzes designing innovative machines to budding entrepreneurs crafting business plans, they're pouring their creativity and dedication into projects that will be showcased in a dazzling exhibition come March. Stay tuned for updates!

Semester Adventures: Learning Beyond the Classroom

We believe in learning that stretches beyond textbooks and into the real world. Here are just a few highlights from our semester of epic expeditions and hands-on experiences:

Grade 6 Hikers: Scaling mountains and conquering fears, our sixth graders tackled the trails of Phuket, building resilient spirits and discovering the importance of preparation (and the right shoes!).

Grade 7 Science Detectives: From electrifying experiments to dissecting a real (but thankfully not beating) pig heart, our seventh graders embarked on scientific adventures that sparked curiosity and maybe even a few career aspirations (or crossed a few off the list!).

Grade 8 Water Warriors: Merging science and social studies, our eighth graders transformed into water warriors. They collected samples, analysed water quality, and created maps, unveiling the impact of society on this precious resource.

Grade 9 Design Masters: Channel your inner MacGyver! Our ninth graders put their creativity and woodworking skills to the test, designing and building paddles for a kayaking expedition along Phuket's stunning coastline. Not only did they hone practical skills, but they also gained a deeper appreciation for the environment.

Grade 10 Mangrove Guardians: Leading by example, our tenth graders teamed up with first graders to plant mangroves, demonstrating the power of environmental stewardship and community engagement. Because let's face it, a future with healthy oceans starts with small hands and big hearts.

More Than Just Grades

These projects, trips, and activities are not just blips on a curriculum; they're the beating heart of our educational philosophy. Through these experiences, our students discover who they are, what they love, and how they can make a difference in the world. They learn that knowledge isn't just found in books, it's waiting to be explored, created, and experienced around every corner.

As we look forward to the rest of the academic year, we're excited to fuel their growth, ignite their curiosity, and empower them to become lifelong learners. Stay tuned for more adventures from the MYP classroom!

We're constantly innovating and finding new ways to make learning meaningful and engaging. Follow us on social media, visit our website, or drop by for a coffee chat to learn more about our vibrant MYP community.
