Looking Ahead: David’s Vision for UWC Thailand

A Journey of Purpose: Building a Legacy for the Future

As Head of School at UWC Thailand, I’ve been inspired by the school’s deep sense of purpose and values. My commitment is to ensure UWC Thailand continues to thrive as a hub of holistic education, academic excellence, and global citizenship.

Excellence in Teaching and Learning

To empower students in building a more peaceful and sustainable world, we must provide them with the knowledge and skills to succeed. Academic excellence is key, and we will prioritise enhancing student performance, ensuring access to top universities and careers. Through inquiry-driven learning and expert teaching, we will equip students with critical problem-solving skills and real-world experiences. A thorough review of assessment practices will help maximise each student’s potential.

Wellbeing, Mindfulness, and Inclusion

UWC Thailand’s commitment to wellbeing, mindfulness, and diversity is a defining strength. We will continue embedding mindfulness into our culture, fostering an environment where students and staff feel valued and supported. Strengthening our inclusion framework and optimising the school day will further enhance holistic education.

Sustainability and Environmental Leadership

UWC Thailand has the potential to lead in sustainability education. Student-led initiatives and recent MYP expeditions have highlighted our students’ deep appreciation for the natural world. We will enhance environmental education, expand sustainability initiatives, and measure our impact to actively reduce our carbon footprint.

Community Engagement and UWC Identity

Strong relationships and shared values make a thriving school community. I aim to strengthen bonds between students, parents, alumni, and the wider UWC network while expanding partnerships with local organisations. Increasing scholarships and celebrating diversity will ensure our UWC identity remains at the heart of all we do.

Boarding: Life Beyond the Classroom

Boarding is an integral part of UWC Thailand, providing students with an immersive learning experience beyond academics. With strong student numbers and financial health, we will invest in sports facilities, expand extracurricular activities, and foster resilience and independence among students. Boarding will be a centre of excellence within our community.

Financial Sustainability and Growth

Our ambitions must be supported by a strong financial foundation. Growing student numbers while maintaining a diverse mix of nationalities, enhancing facilities, and expanding boarding will be key to our sustainability.

Moving Forward Together

These plans are ideas and aspirations at this stage and I do not claim to have all the answers. However, with the incredible talent within our community and our shared commitment to UWC values, we can develop a clear roadmap with measurable outcomes. Together, we will make UWC Thailand a force for a more peaceful and sustainable world.

I look forward to working with our community, learning more about the incredible work at UWC Thailand, and shaping our future together.
