The International Baccalaureate
The International Baccalaureate was developed over 40 years ago by a small group of international schools, led by the École Internationale de Genève. The original goal was to provide a high school leaving document that would meet the standards of the world’s best universities. The International Baccalaureate® aims to 'develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.'
To this end the International Baccalaureate works with schools, governments, and international organisations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
We are currently Thailand’s only international school south of Bangkok that is fully authorised to offer all three International Baccalaureate programmes. Post-secondary institutions view our Diploma Programme graduates favourably based on the rigour of the International Baccalaureate programme and the international reputation of United World College.
The average International Baccalaureate score for the UWC Thailand 2022 graduates who successfully completed the International Baccalaureate diploma was 35.2, compared to a worldwide average of 33.0. While these scores are used in consideration for university entrance; UWC Thailand knows, as do all parents, that students cannot be summarised by a two-digit number. Our graduates are change-makers with a depth of character, grit, and initiative. The world needs more UWC graduates.
Our graduates have matriculated to colleges and universities in Canada, France, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Singapore, Spain, UK, USA. Individually, they are kind, curious, resilient, and talented human beings who will be missed every day on our campus. The predominant destination for our students remains the USA largely due to the Davis United World College Scholars Programme that provides scholarships for UWC graduates to 95 colleges and universities in the USA.
Our cohort of diploma program graduates earns an average of US$1.5 million annually for university attendance worldwide.
A look at the International Baccalaureate's school listings will show you that UWC Thailand is in the company of some of the world’s finest schools in addition to being part of the United World College movement.
UWC Thailand started as a prospective International Baccalaureate school and was one of the first schools in the world to commit to all three programmes, in all grades, for all students. We believe the International Baccalaureate is the right programme for tomorrow’s world and the Board of Governors had demonstrated its complete commitment to the International Baccalaureate over the years.
The school is a member of the International Baccalaureate Organisation and may be called an International Baccalaureate World School. Preschool to grade 5 students are members of the Primary Years Programme. The school is also authorised to deliver the Middle Years Programme (grades 6 to 10), as well as the Diploma Programme (grades 11 and 12).
