Caryl Medilo Crisóstomo

Early Years Programme Learning Leader and Junior & Senior Kindergarten Teacher
 
 

Caryl is originally from the Philippines and is a pioneer teacher at UWC Thailand, having taught here since the school began in 2008. She has spent most of her teaching career overseas. She has worked as a team leader, Early Childhood classroom teacher and learning support teacher. She holds a Bachelor of Elementary Education, majoring in English, from Holy Cross of Davao College and is currently studying for a Certificate in Early Education Leadership (CEEL) at Harvard Graduate School of Education. She has been involved in the Primary Years Programme since 2008 and has completed training and seminars in other IB World Schools. She has completed courses on the Clinical Psychology of Children and Young People (The University of Edinburgh), an Early Childhood Education Certificate (Gowrie, Australia) and a Special Educational Needs (SEN) Certificate (International Open Academy). Caryl has recently joined the UWC Philippines National Committee as a volunteer. 

As an Early Childhood Educator, she strongly believes that children learn best when they learn through play. She is a passionate co-constructor of their knowledge and provides the students with a fun, safe, stimulating environment, meaningful experiences and interesting spaces, materials and resources. She is an advocate of inquiry-based learning. As a lifelong learner, she continues to develop her skills and expertise in her chosen field.

She lives in Phuket with her husband, Edison and her energetic dog. Her life balance comes from connecting with nature, trekking, going to the beach and travelling. Her interests include fun runs, organising events, dancing, exploring new cafes, online shopping, and being with family and friends.
