Renu (Pla) Youthongkam

Learning Support Teaching Assistant

Pla was born in Nakhon Si Thammarat, a province in southern Thailand. She joined UWC Thailand in 2015, first working in the library, then taking the position of Learning Support in the Primary School. She began working with students who have Autism Spectrum Disorder and continues to support young students with specialised learning needs. Her educational interests and training were finance and accounting.

Pla loves young children and is continually learning how to best support them. Prior to joining UWC Thailand, she worked with private families in the USA for four years, caring for infants and toddlers. She enjoys collaborating with other educators and especially members of the Learning Support team. While grounded in her Thai culture, she is keen to understand and explore the diverse cultures we have on campus so she may help build cultural competence in the students she works with.

Pla’s hobbies include gardening, cooking all sorts of international cuisines, camping and travelling. Her son, Peach, currently lives in the USA and she is accompanied by her husband, Len, who also works at UWC Thailand.
