Lural Ramírez

Head of School

In her third year as Head of School at UWC Thailand, Lural is honoured to serve the UWC Thailand community as it takes innovative education forward on the beautiful island of Phuket and as one of the inspiring through schools within the global UWC movement. Lural's leadership is grounded in her over 20 year trajectory as an educational leader, leading in three diverse educational contexts in the USA, Costa Rica and now Thailand. Lural thrives in mission-driven environments where committed and talented educators convene in partnership with the broader school community and alongside like-minded partner organizations and philanthropists. Lural's professional endeavours have solidified her belief that it is the collective efforts secured through public and private partnership and guided by a solutions mindset that will ensure we are addressing the areas of greatest need within our communities and that we are supporting transformational pedagogical approaches.

Prior to her headship at UWC Thailand, Lural served as the Head of Centro Educativo Futuro Verde in Costa Rica for seven years. Previously, she held teaching and Dual Language leadership positions for 11 years at Lincoln Elementary School in Oregon, situated on the west coast of the United States. Lural earned a dual Bachelor's degree in Communications and Spanish from Linfield University, and a Master's degree in Teaching with an emphasis in bilingual education from Oregon State University. Additionally, she holds a Certificate in Educational Leadership and Administration from LEAD University and a Certificate of International School Leadership from the Principal's Training Centre (PTC). In 2023, she completed a Klingenstein Head of School Fellowship at Columbia University. Within the International Baccalaureate (IB) community, Lural serves as both an examiner and an IB consultant.

In her spare time, Lural loves to spend time with her husband, Alejandro, and their three children: Joaquin, Santiago and Quetzal, most often engaging in any and every kind of sporting and outdoor endeavour, with special love for volleyball, surfing, running, cycling, hiking, and basketball!
